WORKING EXPERIENCE
1. Employed by Interaid Uganda from August 2018 to January 2020
Duties and responsibilities included:
• Provided counseling services and other short term therapeutic services to asylum seekers and refugees on individual and group basis and in communities.
• Conducted site visits to assess individual psychosocial needs and providing site counseling.
• Identified and assessed the individual needs of refugees who were extremely vulnerable including the elderly, persons with disabilities, child headed families, persons with insecurity issues to mention but a few and referred them to the PSN(persons with special needs) and other sections for appropriate support.
• Ensured up to date record keeping including case preparation, keeping continuous counseling notes and other documents used in the course of work.
• Worked hand in hand with health team and the visiting psychologist to handle different cases of trauma as and when required.
• Followed up and monitored general case status and processing of refugee cases from time to time
• Tracked, documented and measured the progress of clients counseled
• Prepared timely periodic and specific activity reports
• Documented the best practices implemented, success stories and case studies for dissemination and learning
• Maintained proper and updated records on all persons of concerns on their files.
• Identified, assessed, reported and developed strategies to mitigate against risks that could happen to Persons of concern (POCs) and the Organization
• Performed other duties in line with the job as required from time to time by supervisor.
2. Employed by Infectious Diseases Institute (IDI), under the Pediatric and Adolescent care project as Counselor from January 2016 to March 2018.
Duties and responsibilities included:
Mentored Health care workers in provision of quality comprehensive pediatric and adolescent HIV counseling and testing services.
• Improvement in the quality of services given to patients as a result of mentorship.
Mentored health workers in Integration of GBV interventions in all project activities including HIV testing and counseling services, community dialogue meetings, peer support meetings to mention but a few and ensuring all GBV cases were documented.
• The uptake of gender mainstreaming by health workers improved and most GBV cases were handled through home visits, facility based counseling and referrals to other supportive organizations like the Police where counseling had not helped.
• Documentation of GBV cases by health workers improved for easy reporting.
Offered counseling and home visits to children who had challenges at home for example being denied education because of their HIV status, being stigmatized and discriminated to mentioned but a few
• Through home visits and counseling, a good number of these children got better psychosocial support from family members in terms of love , going back to school, better nutrition to mention but a few.
• Where family support failed, several were referred and later taken up by other supportive Organizations like Bless the Children Ministries(BTCM) that offers free education, food, treatment to mention but a few and hence their quality of life improved.
Supported community interventions and linkage of children and adolescents to community organizations and Orphan and Vulnerable children (OVC) services
• Families restored through linkage to community organizations and Vulnerable children services
Compiling program reports
• Compilation of both monthly and quarterly reports as required and hence improvement in performance as a result of feedback and suggestions
3. Employed by Infectious Diseases Institute, Uganda under the CSF/RRH project from November 2011 to October 2015, as a Counselor and carried out the duties and responsibilities below:
Collaborated with the district during implementation of project activities
• The community got involved in the project activities as a result of this collaboration, which led to achieving project targets
Made monthly and quarterly reports on activities done
• There was improvement in performance as a result of feedback got from submitted reports
Referred patients for counseling to other Social support Institutions
• Through partnership and collaboration, clients were referred to other supportive organizations like the police, legal aid and their issues were addressed.
5. From 1st April 2005 to 31st December 2010, was employed by The AIDS Support Organization (TASO), as a counselor.
Duties and responsibilities included:
Assessed the livelihood and health state of refugees that were in care at the AIDS Support Organization
• A good number of refugees benefited from other types of support such food, clothing besides treatment which improved on their wellbeing through collaboration with Organizations like World Vision.
Counseled children engaged in abuse, of alcohol and drugs. This was done through group or individual counseling. More so, Recreational activities were also done to encourage the physical, social, emotional and intellectual development of children.
• Children who had previously abandoned school due to alcohol and drug abuse willingly went back to school after counseling, and also stopped alcohol and drug abuse.
Counseled and referred orphans and individuals facing gender based violence to appropriate organizations for Support.
• Most families were restored, and the qualities of life of orphans were improved.
Trained AIDS community workers/Volunteers on HIV/AIDS information, so that they were in position to support community members
• Community workers/Volunteers were able to support the local communities to reach health centers, in case of any opportunistic infection attack even without the presence of health workers.
Attended advocacy meeting with other partners
• Most of the services offered by other organization were made known and thereafter referred clients for support to other organizations.
