The following represents my duties and responsibilities, record and keep minutes of meetings of Contracts Committee, coordinate and prepare Contracts Committee meetings schedules,agenda,signing and communication of contracts Committee decisions, Planning and budgeting for the Contracts Committee.

 

May 2014 to date.         University Legal Officer, Kyambogo University PO.BOX 1, Kyambogo. The following represents my duties and responsibilities at Kyambogo University; to provide clear oral and written interpretation of laws and other statutory instruments relating to the University, provide professional advice and ensure that the University complies with the set Policies, Regulations and Guidelines governing the management of human resources and students of the University(includes corporate transactional regulatory requirements), offer professional advice relating to the management of staff contributions to social security/providence funds and payment of gratuity and other terminal benefits, represent the university in court and effectively represent the interests of the University, provision of  legal counsel to the University disciplinary committees, University council and all its committees, prosecute and defend cases on behalf of the University in the University staff tribunal(includes review of pleadings, investigation of complaints and gathering of evidence), ensure that contracts between the University and suppliers/service providers are administered according to the laws of Uganda or any relevant international law, draft service level agreements, coordinate and manage activities of the University external lawyers(three law firms).

August 2016 to 2022:    Part time Lecture, Kyambogo University PO BOX 1, Kyambogo. I taught Company Law, Procurement law and Criminal Law in the School of Management and Entrepreneurship, Faculty of Engineering and Faculty of Arts respectively.

 

 

2012-2013                     Head Legal Unit Marika Africa Limited,my duties were; to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance i.e compliance with the tax and employment regimes, drafting of mortgages, charges, debentures,drafted reviewed and negotiated financing agreements, drafted reviewed negotiated and renegotiated contracts, Managed litigation(prosecute/defend cases on behalf of the company), drafted and managed the performance of all company leases, prepared service level agreements, provided legal recovery of non-performing assets, underook research on the current legal developments, facilitated training of staff on specific legal issues, managed and coordinated staff meetings.participated in the negotiations of legal clauses in commercial matters and custodian of the Company’s official documents,

 

May 2012 to May 2014:  Partner M/s Luwum, Rutaremwa & Co Advocates, 2nd  Floor, UMA Show grounds, Lugoggo, Kampala. My areas of practice included the following; Drafted contracts and financing agreements, managed Alternative Dispute Resolution Unit. Provided legal advise on corporate compliance(included corporate transactional regulatory requirements), drafted mortgages, charges and debentures,drafted reviewed and negotiated financing agreements, drafted,reviewed negotiated and renegotiated contracts, drafted and managed the performance of all company leases, prepared service level agreements, debt recovery and credit management,international trade law, administrative law and processes,corporate law and corporate restruturing,formulation of policies and legal auditing,participated in the negotiations of of legal clauses in commercial matters.mergers and aquisitions,public private partnerships.

 

Jan 2012 to June 2012: Legal Officer, Justice Centers Uganda-Bunyoro-Branch,PO,BOX 26365,Kampala,it is an institution which was established by the chief Justice’s circular No.1 of 2010,to operationalise legal aid within the judiciary; my duties were; prosecuted/defended cases on behalf of the organization,provided legal advice and counselled clients, technical support for the development of an outreach and advocacy strategy by the Justice Centre, to oversee and supervise paralegals and community volunteers, undertook community outreach programmes,run the mobile legal aid clinic, conducted training sessions for key stake holders and communities in human rights issues, represented clients in courts of law, undertook research and document lessons and results, prepared regular work plans and reports and participateded in weekly in house training sessions.

 

 

 

2010 to 2012                –                  legal advisor/Company Secretary for Mariana Agencies Limited and with a number of subsidiary Companies there under, its located opposite equatorial Hotel,Luwum,street.My duties were; to ensure statutory and regulatory compliance i.e corporate transactional regulatory requirements, drafting of mortgages,charges,debentures and financing agreements, facilitate contract negotiations and renegotiations, Managed litigation, drafted and managed the performance of all company leases, prepare service level agreements, provide legal recovery of non-performing assets, undertook research on the current legal developments, facilitated training of staff on specific legal issues, managed and coordinated staff meetings and cordinated all matters handled by the external counsel..

 

2010 to 2012                –                  Research Assistant with Gids Consult (U) Limited on the project of developing a methodology to develop, revise harmonize and complete legislation and policies on Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPS) and other related areas in Uganda. My duties were to carry out research on the position of the legal system in Uganda visa –v policy and legislative needs and expertise as regards to handling, transportation and disposition of waste materials without causing harm to the environment in Uganda.

 

2005-2007         –           Research assistant at Rural Information Services Association (RISA) in conjunction with the Open University of U.K. This organization is based in Kayunga District Kangulumira Sub- County. I trained the local people on the basic methods of electronic conferencing which involves networking and how to access basic information using modern technology in rural areas. My duties and responsibilities were: to train the local community on the basics of computing, preparation of the organization’s work plans, evaluation and monitoring of students, sentisation of the community on the importance of electronic conferencing and how it will impact their communities, evaluation and monitoring of the organization programmes and policies and lastly took part in web- designing.

 

2004-2006       –             Internee with Uganda Human Rights Commission Jinja Regional Offices. My duties responsibilities were among others; writing monthly/quarterly reports, Interviewing clients, legal drafting, investigations and inspections of places of detention, formed part of the mediation/arbitration team, massive sensitization of the fundamental human rights to the public through radio programmes and holding workshops with different stakeholders.
