Career Objectives:
Mr. Alinaitwe Derrick Aggrey, is a proactive agronomist, environmentalist and soil scientist. He graduated with a Bachelor’s degree of sciences in agricultural land-use and management at Makerere University. He has since completion been involved in sustainable agricultural land use planning, implementation and assessment of projects (crops and livestock), conducted trainings on soil fertility management, natural resource and environmental conservation, documentation (data collection, editing and reporting), and conducting field visits amongst smallholder farmers.
Derrick has strong passion in coffee production, processing and sustainable-climate smart agriculture with the focus on increasing food security, improving livelihoods and environmental protection through sustainable organic farming practices, climate change mitigation activities, and conducting farming as a business to increase farmer’s income.

Employment history and work experience:

1). Kinene Mixed Farm,
Kakuuto county, Kyotera district.

Position: Farm Manager
2021-2023 (Current position)

Responsibilities

-To draft a monthly and annual farm work plan.
-Timely implement all planned farm activities.
-conducting field inspections to assess disease out breaks and produce performance for both animals and crops.
-Supervise and assess the performance of farm workers in relation to work limits and quality.
-Authentic, timely reporting and maintaining of all farm records.
-Training of community farmers and farm workers on enterprise selection and new farming methods.
– conducting market analysis and connecting all farm products to the market.
-implement climate change mitigation activities like, water harvesting, agroforestry, increase farm biomass and soil cover protection.

Key Achievements

-Initiated 2 new projects on the farm that is (piggery project and vegetable growing).
-Improved on the farm income through producing farm products to the market on a monthly basis.
-Improved on the farm existing enterprises (coffee and bananas) with a target of making a coffee model farm in the community.
-Provided knowledge, skills and employment to the youth farmers in the community.

2). Agri Exim Organics (U) Ltd,
Icheme town council, Lira district.

Position: Documentation officer,
Jan- Dec, 2020

Responsibilities

-Ensured documentation and data management activities were conducted in an efficient and effective manner as per certification standards.
-Trained a team of trainers and smallholder farmers into the required internal control standards, crop enterprise selection and soil fertility Management.
-Project planning and timely implementation of all project activities focusing on attaining the project goals and outcomes with the prior knowledge of the Project Manager.
-Supervised, monitored, evaluated and assessed the performance of field officers, farmers and FFS groups in enterprise establishment, diversity and environmental conservation through Farm-field visits, farmer days and daily inspections.
-Efficient and effective record keeping of all agronomic, certification project activities, weekly and monthly progress reporting.
-Established demonstration and study plots in each project area targeting the selected crop following sustainable organic farming practices and principles.

Key Achievements

-The documentation activities conducted, helped to approve the company’s certification standards through the EU and one cert-audits.
– I improved onto the smallholder farmers livelihoods through the trainings and field inspections conducted thus increasing their farm income and food security.
– I was able to link farmers’ produce right from their respective collective stores to markets at fair prices.
– I attained more skills and knowledge into organic farming and conservation agriculture practices which am carrying on to meet my goals of sustainable agriculture.

3). Buzardi-Naro,
Bugahya county, Hioma district.

Position: Coffee agronomist-volunteering
Mar, 2019- Jan, 2020

Responsibilities
-Designed appropriate data that included soil maps, farm maps, and farm data of different farmers.
-Conducted soil analysis: soil sampling and soil testing and gave appropriate fertilizer recommendations that support coffee planting.
-Conducted field-farm inspections to ensure that good agronomic practices are conducted effectively.
-Generated an appropriate cropping system and crop production calendar for most coffee farmers within the region.
-Conducted trainings on natural resources, soil and water conservation, and also organic management practices targeting climate smart agriculture principles.

Key Achievements

-I created awareness of the value of coffee growing in the community as a project that can improve the youths’ livelihoods.
-I promoted the agro-forestry management activities in line with coffee growing as a way of mitigating the changing climate.
-I promoted the practices of environmental and natural resources conversation as a way of protecting the natural ecosystems that are beneficial in maintain a balance in nature.

4). Agricultural Innovation Systems Brokerage Association (AGINSBA)
Kitezi-Mpererwe, Wakiso district.

Position: Agricultural Extension officer-volunteering
2017-2018

Responsibilities

-I Designed and wrote training manuals of high value crops like, coffee, bananas maize, and vegetables to be used by lead farmers.
-I Trained youth farmers and women into good agricultural methods that promote effective land use and food security.
-I conducted field visits to farmers in the southwestern Uganda and established study plots to be used in improvement of agricultural practices in the region.

Key Achievements

– I promoted new farming methods that increased coffee-banana cropping system as sustainable practice through trainings demonstrations and designed training manuals.
