Legal Officer
Job Title: Legal Officer (One Position)
Reports to: Senior Legal Officer
Job Summary: The position provides support to the Senior Legal Officer to provide legal advice and representation on all matters, pertaining to the mandate and transactions of our client’s operations. The successful applicant shall be required to provide legal representation in the courts of law and presiding over relevant internal and external legal matters.
Key Deliverables:
- Reviewing, amending and drafting of agreements, equity investment and other facility agreements for compliance purposes
- Follow up with organisation officials, law firms, financial institutions and registries to ensure that all agreements are legally enforceable
- Representation in courts of law; preparation and filing of pleadings and related court documents
- Preparation of bills, policies, legal briefs, and reports
- Carrying out legal due diligence; in particular reviewing due diligence reports and other reports from legal consultants as may be required by the Senior Legal Officer
- Carrying out searches, registrations and filing at various Government Departments, Agencies, Courts of Judicature and others as may be required.
- Evaluation and general handling of collateral documents to ascertain compliance with policies and other legal requirements.
- Act as a focal point for internal and external Compliance Audits
- Rendering in-house legal services
- Participation in local, regional and international contract negotiations
- Undertaking legal research
- Assisting in the procurement processes, mainly in preparation and evaluation of bids, reviewing draft procurement contracts and provision of legal guidance
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Law (Hons) and a Diploma in Legal Practice and an enrolled advocate of the High Court of Uganda.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years’ experience in legal practice and litigation in a law firm or as an in house lawyer in a private or public organization. Demonstrable understanding of relevant laws and how they are applied;knowledge and experience of litigation (including ability to draft legal briefs and memoranda).
